Yummy Home Made Guinea Pig Treats

Sure – you can happily buy guinea pig treats in pet stores – but in the same way as pre-made treats for humans might not be the healthiest for us, it can be both advantageous and fun to make your own “Scooby snacks” for your furry friends.

And how about this for a fab guinea pig singing for his supper:

I came across this great (and easy) recipe for guinea pig treats, so thought I’d share.  And, let me tell you, these little nibbles certainly cause some of the most excited guinea pig noises from those piggies that tried them.  And we all know how great it is to hear our piggies wheeking and telling us to HURRY UP and bring them some yummy foods.

Anyway – here’s the recipe:

1 x cup flour

2 x cups good quality guinea pig pellets

2 x tablespoons honey

6 x tablespoons canola oil

2/3 x cup water

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F

Place all the ingredients together in a bowl and mix until well combined.

Roll the mix flat and cut into desired shapes – using a shape cutter if required

Place on a baking sheet and cook for approx. 20 mins, or until firm

Remove from oven, cool on rack

Feed to your piggies – but of course, as a treat and not too much at a time.

It’d be great if any of our SPS guinea pig community also have some home-made guinea pig treat recipes to share.  After all, that’s what our community’s all about.

Till next time – love those piggies…

Oh!  And I almost forgot…  We’d love it if you’d help us in our mission to make the nation’s small pets the best kept in the world.  If you’ve enjoyed this blog then it’d be awesome if you could share it on Twitter or Facebook.  And if you fancy leaving a comment then we’d love to hear from you.

Sorry the only problem is that guinea pigs can’t digest flour and honey. the flour is too dry and the honey is to sticky. Sorry, so this probably isn’t the best treat to make. try using all natural homemade treats!!
