Can guinea pigs eat meat?

Meat…certainly a part of the diet for many humans.  But can guinea pigs eat meat?

The answer to this one is no.  You really should never feed your guinea pig meat, as their digestive systems are just not set up that way, and they don’t eat meat in the wild.  Instead, make sure you are giving your guinea pig lots of high quality timothy hay, fresh and clean water, and vitamin c fortified guinea pig pellets.  A sensible amount of fresh veggies and the occasional fruit as a treat can be a good way to add variety and bond with your guinea pig.  But meat?  Not a good choice, at least for guinea pigs.

Hope this was helpful, and be sure to come back soon.

Till next time, love those piggies…
