Can guinea pigs eat peanut butter?
While peanut butter may not be poisonous to guinea pigs, most everyone would agree it really has no place in the guinea pigs diet as it is high in fat and serves no purpose other than potentially upsetting your guinea pigs stomach. Peanut butter, especially if fed in any large quantity, is going to cause digestive problems for your guinea pig in the short term, and weight gain and potentially worse health problems in the long run. There are many other snacks or treats to choose from instead of peanut butter. Guinea pigs need a diet that is high in fiber and low in fat. Thats why the most important things you can provide your guinea pig are going to be fresh timothy hay, fresh and clean water, as well as vitamin c fortified guinea pig pellets. Of course some vegetables fed in moderation and the occasional fruit as a treat are practiced by many pet owners with success.
