Belinda Says Hay: “Bedtime Story by My Roommate”

Belinda the Spokesrabbit blog: Bedtime Story by My Roommate

Hello. It's Belinda.

Today's blog is unusual. "To put it mildly."

I hope you don't mind.

Last week, I mentioned that Little Fang was having a hard time with the Fourth of July fireworks. And that my roommate had hung thick black curtains over the window and door. "To block the noise."

The curtains muffled the booms and crackles a bit. But Little Fang was still scared.

Not to gossip, but she wouldn't come out of her sleeping box for two days. Only to use the "loo" meaning pee pads.

So last Saturday night, my roommate decided to invite herself and the English to a little "slumber party" down here, on the bottom level. Just like last year.

She moved the English into a pen next to Little Fang's area. Once he was settled, she gave us each a healthy snacker and a loop.

Then my roommate turned off the light and shuffled across the room to her sleeping bag. But first she walked right into Little Fang's exercise pen. The room was pitch black.

Outside the fireworks sounded like car crashes. I was getting grumpy about it, to tell you the truth. I just wanted to go to sleep.

But it wasn't meant to be.

"I have a surprise for you all!" said my roommate.

"It's a bedtime story. To take your mind off all the noise."

I need to be clear about something. I did not ask my roommate for permission to share this story in my blog.

But I wanted you to see it. Because it explains a lot about what goes on in this house.

Here's what she said.

"A Bedtime Story by My Roommate"

"Once upon a time there were three mice named Blanche, Lily Fay and Engelbert.

Blanche had white fur. Lily Fay's fur was solid black. Engelbert was very handsome. His fur had nice grey spots.

The mice were small but they shared a huge habitat on the bottom level of their house. The space was 20 feet long and 4 feet wide, with hidey boxes, ramps, tubes and exercise wheels."

This is me Belinda. So far my roommate's story was pretty good. Her voice sounded sleepy and that made me drowsy. But I was still listening.

"The three mice had a human friend who lived upstairs. She was in charge of groceries, fresh water and toys.

The human friend did an excellent job with her tasks, and with keeping their habitat clean.

Blanche, Lily Fay and Engelbert were so grateful that they did whatever the human wanted. Plus they didn't complain or ignore her when she asked them a question. Also they didn't tear up the house."

Belinda again. This story was going off the rails in my opinion.

"One day the mice wanted a Harvest Loop. They were so pleasant and not ornery that their human friend said 'Of course.' So she gave them a piece of loop to share. And everyone was happy.

The end."

Little Fang didn't make a sound. Neither did the English.

I pretended to be asleep.

A few minutes later, I heard snoring. Which was almost as loud as the fireworks.

Once we knew my roommate was "out for the night," the real party started.

I'll write about that next week.

If you made it this far, thanks for reading. I know today's blog is not professional.

Sincerely,

Belinda
