Does your timothy hay have vitamin C for my guinea pig?
Is there vitamin C in your timothy hay?
This is a great question and one we get at Small Pet Select all the time. Timothy hay is a poor source of vitamin C for your Guinea Pig. And, providing your piggies with a daily dose of vitamin C is essential, as they’re unable to synthesize it within their bodies themselves. There are a number of ways to make sure that your Guinea Pigs get the required Vitamin C they need to stay healthy.
Because of this, most guinea pig pellets are fortified with vitamin C to ensure he gets it in his diet. We offer timothy hay pellets with Vitamin C in them. Another great source of Vitamin C are fresh vegetables and it’s also possible to add drops to his water (probably not the best method) or to crush up vitamin C tablets and sprinkle them on your Guinea Pigs food. However, feeding fresh pellets containing vitamin C on a daily basis is probably the most widely used method of ensuring your pet gets his necessary daily amount because you know exactly how much they are eating and it also is a god source of fiber for them.
