How much Timothy Hay should you buy for a Guinea Pig?

When it comes to knowing how much timothy hay to buy for a guinea pig, then the most important thing is that you never run out.  The reason for this is that a piggy needs to eat hay on a virtually constant basis to ensure good digestive health.  So when it comes to deciding how much to purchase at any one time, a good rule of thumb is to ensure that you never have less than a week’s supply in hand.

But, for many people, you won’t want the bother of buying hay every week.  In that case, you can certainly purchase more – in fact, probably as much as you have room to store.  Hay can last for a long time as long as it’s stored in the correct place.  In other words, it needs to be kept in a dry environment and kept out of any direct sun or artificial bright light.  For most people, purchasing around a month’s supply of hay at a time for their guinea pig will ensure that they don’t have the chore of ordering too often, but that it doesn’t take up too much storage room or that you have the worry it might spoil.
