Can guinea pigs eat orange peels?

There are so many options when it comes to feeding guinea pigs, and one question that people may have is can guinea pigs eat orange peels?

Many guinea pig owners will occasionally feed their guinea pigs a small slice of fruit as a treat, and also to help them get the vitamin c that they need (guinea pigs cannot synthesize their own vitamin c).  Oranges are one of the fruits that may be fed.  However, as with all fruit, its important to remember that oranges have a lot of sugar in them, and if there is anything that can upset the digestive system of your guinea pig it is too much sugar.  So, if you do decide to feed a guinea pig an orange, make sure it is a small slice, and really only need to feed this sparingly.  When it comes to can guinea pigs eat orange peels, although it might be possible for them to eat them, its not really necessary for their diet.  Remember, the main things that your guinea pig needs is high quality timothy hay, fresh and clean water, as well as vitamin c fortified guinea pig pellets.   Do this along with a sensible amount of some fresh veggies and the occasional small slice of fruit and you’re on your way to a happy and healthy guinea pig.

Thanks for stopping by, and hope to see you again soon.

Till next time, love those piggies…
