Belinda Says Hay: “A Cold Draft, Part 2”

Belinda Says Hay spokesrabbit blog, ”A Cold Draft, Part 2," Feb 1, 2026

Hello. It's Belinda.

Back in January I wrote about a cold draft blowing under the door.

Mostly I wrote about how that draft got me in trouble with my roommate. That blog was called "A Cold Draft, Part 1."

Well it happened again.

There’s a big silver foil "tube" behind the dryer. It attaches the dryer to a metal vent in the window.

Thanks to the tube, all the hot dryer air blows outside where it belongs.

Every now and again that foil tube gets knocked out of place. Due to me “goofing around” back there.

And when the foil tube is knocked out of the window, cold air blows from the backyard right into the room.

Also, it makes weird noises. For example, last Friday, when there was a windstorm that really “took the cake.”

It all started around 7 o’clock.

I was relaxing on my sleeping rug, beside the furnace. Little Fang was standing in her pen, chewing a long piece of orchard hay.

Suddenly a big gust of wind hit the window behind the dryer.

Little Fang’s ears shot straight up.

“Who is that?”

The hay piece she was chewing dropped to the floor.

It’s just wind, I said.

Everything got quiet again.

After a minute, she relaxed her ears and went back to chewing hay.

Soon another big “belt” of wind hit the window. It blew in through the vent with a loud “WHOO!”

Little Fang jumped sideways.

“That’s an owl!”

Her eyes were like saucers.

Not an owl, I said.

It’s the window vent. I knocked the foil tube loose again.

I sat up and scratched my ears for a bit. I was thinking about “retiring” upstairs for a nap.

On the one hand, I wanted to stay with Little Fang to help keep her calm.

But a cold draft was blowing under the dryer. I could feel it all the way over on my side of the room.

Just then the window shook with the loudest blast of wind you can imagine.

If you turned your shoulder sideways and ran “full tilt” against the side of the house, that’s the sound you would make. Like slamming a big door, but instead of a door it's the window behind the dryer.

Immediately, all the lights went out.

OK this blog is getting long.

I’m going to stop here and post a “Part 2” next week.

Or should I say “Part 2, Part 2.”

Sincerely,

Belinda
