Belinda Says Hay: “What You’ve Sent So Far”

Hello. It's Belinda.

I am in such a good mood. 

I was stressing out about work and now I'm not.

It all started last week with a blog I called "A Quick Survey."

It was about how I'm trying to come up with good topics for my future blogs. I asked you to send ideas to me. Meaning things you want to know about rabbit behavior or care.

Well you really "knocked it out of the park."

My friend Liz O. left a comment on the company Facebook page. It said, "Do rabbits prefer certain color toys? Or does it depend on the individual rabbit?"

Now that's a new one for me. I will add it to my list.

Lisa R. asked, "What are rabbits looking at when they stand up on back legs and stare at the wall?"

Oh boy. Another good one. If any rabbits want to "weigh in" on that one I will be taking notes.

Nova H. left a comment too. She asked: "How come my rabbit bites my legs and licks my daughter? Who of us is the one that is cherished most based on that behaviour? (FYI, the biting is minimal, no super hurtful or aggressive)."

I am going to ask my roommate for help with this one. I have never "put my teeth" on a human but I know some foster rabbits have chomped my roommate in the past.

Barb B. wrote an excellent "bathroom" question. She wrote: "I know all about cecotropes but I find that my bunny sits and chews on what looks like actual poop. Not while in the litter box but just in random places around the house. This is kind of what it looks like but there are usually more. Is this normal? Why does he do this?"

Everyone needs a hobby and I sure hope your rabbit can find something less embarrassing.

Just kidding. I am going to work on a blog for you because I bet a lot of rabbits do this.

My friend Willow emailed her question to me. She wrote, "My mum likes to put my carrier in a large dog stroller(hard side) and we go outside for walks. We have a blast but mum is concerned that with Fall coming, it may get too cold to venture outside. I am acclimated to 60-65 degrees inside. I have a very thin coat and my big beautiful ears tend to give off heat. When do you think we need to stay inside?"

Thank you for the excellent question Willow. It's on my list.

Another email came from Denise K. She said her rabbit Jefferson "always looks like he wants petting, but then he doesn't. Is there some clue you could give me to tell when he's just chilling or is actually wanting cuddles?"

A lot of roommates probably have the same question. Thanks for sending it.

My friend Celeste is part of a trio of rabbits who live with their roommate in a house.

She has quite a story about her rabbit roommates Finley and Clark. 

"Finley lives up here with us but must stay in his own area. This is because Finley and Clark Gable HAAAAAAATE each other. (Both have been neutered.)

... when Clark was a little baby (his mom, Audrey Hopburn was fostered here) Clark was already throwing himself at the divider and insulting Finley. Of course Finley wasn’t having any of that so he would box the fence too. This grew into a full blown feud. 

... Belinda, we know all about you and The English. Do you have any tips?"

But wait. There's a "part two" to her message.

"And speaking of Finley, he is blind. He gets around extremely well and is the picture of health but he can’t see anything. Hoom has done many things to accommodate a blind bunny and we know other hooms do special things for their blind or sight impaired bunnies as well.

Hoom has had blind bunnies before so she knew just what to do for Finley but not every bunny parent does. Maybe you could collect some ideas that would help bunnies that may be losing their sight?"

Celeste you have given me two A+ topics for my blog. All I can say is I have already started my research about the blind rabbit ideas.

As for Finley and Clark Gable I will chew on it if you know what I mean.

Last but not least, I want to include this email and photo from my friend Cheryl.

Her rabbit Lily likes to sleep and pretend she's not sleeping.

And get this: Lily will start to dream and wake herself up and look at Cheryl as if to say, "Why are you watching me?"

Cheryl writes, "I love it when she does that. Rabbits don't really know how cute they are, do you think?"

No we do not Cheryl. 

In fact we need to hear it several times a day.
