This quote from the PDSA (The People's Dispensary for Sick Animals) is a great way to describe mice: Mice are 'opportunistic omnivores.' This means they eat plants, seeds, and grains but will also eat insects when they get the chance! Even though mice will eat almost everything, it doesn’t mean they should! Additionally, mice are obesity-prone. Treats should only make up 5% of their diet, so why not make “dessert” healthy? We’d love it if you kept on reading to learn about healthy treats for mice.

Forage: Exercise While Eating
Wild mice spend most of their time foraging for food. You can help your mice mimic instinctual behavior by hiding their treats and regular food all around their enclosure. It’s fun to see how quickly they find their “buried treasure.”
Two More Things
- Don’t give them many new treats all at once. Introduce them slowly to avoid an upset tummy.
- Fresh food should be removed from the housing within 4-6 hours if not eaten to avoid spoilage.
