Chapter 63 - Hide and Seek
Early one morning, before Dad got up, Enzo and Merlot were hanging out behind the couch, staring out the window. All was quiet. Not much was going on. Enzo asked, “Merlot. Want to play hide and seek?”
Merlot was always game for whatever Enzo wanted, so she replied, “OK. How does it work?” Enzo explained, “It easy. I close my eyes and count to ten. You go hide somewhere. Den, I come find you. If I not find you, you win!” Merlot thought that didn’t sound too hard. She said, “OK.”
Enzo said, “OK, you go first. Go hide!” Enzo closed his eyes and began counting to ten. Merlot ran out from behind the couch. She looked around for a place to hide. She thought about running to their bolt-to spot, but that seemed too obvious. She could hear Enzo counting, “Eight… nine… ten. Ready or not, here I come.” Merlot quickly ducked under the end table behind a pillow and held still. Enzo came bounding out from behind the couch in search of Merlot. He figured she’d probably go hide in their afternoon nap hidey spot, so he ran right past Merlot and headed for the bedroom.
Merlot was quite pleased with herself and thought, “Ha! I fooled him!” Then she heard Enzo in the bedroom call out, “OK. I give up. Where are you, Merlot?”
Merlot paused for a second. Then, she said, “Here I am!” and ran to find Enzo. “Did I win?” she asked.
Enzo plays hide and seek with Merlot.
