Chapter 119 – Merlots Date

Chapter 119 - Merlots Date

Senior Angel Abigail flew over her fluffle of angels to check on them. She noticed Angel Enzo staring intently, so she stopped to see what was up.

“Hi Enzo. Whatcha lookin’ at?” she asked. Enzo had a concerned look on his face. “Remember how I promised to send a bun like me to Dad and Merlot? I found one, but dey not looking at da right one! Merlot on a date, but she wit da wrong bun. What should I do?” Abigail suggested, “Just wish hard that that bun acts like himself. If he’s not the right one, it will show.”

Enzo wished hard, and sure enough, the little Dutch Dwarf, who was very small, started humping Merlot to establish dominance. Merlot tolerated the little bun, but she was not amused. Dad could tell. He told Anna, the bonding assistant, “As cute as he is, I don’t think he’s the right bun for Merlot.” She agreed.

Then, she paired up Merlot with a Dutch rabbit, more her size. Enzo looked at Abigail and said, “Oh, no! Dat not the right bun, eider!” He wished the same thing, and soon enough, the young Dutch began humping Merlot to show her who was boss. Again, Merlot politely tolerated the bun, but was not interested.

Enzo wished hard that Dad would go looking for the bun he had sent his way. Anna suggested, “Why don’t you look around and see if there are any other rabbits that you think might be right.” Dad went down the aisle of ex-pens, checking out all the rabbits who were up for adoption at The Rabbit Haven adoption faire.

Just then, Auntie Heather came by holding a Dutch/Lionhead mix. “Oh, maybe you should try this little guy. His name is Peppermint. He’s an owner surrender. He’s really friendly, loves attention, and doesn’t mind being picked up.” Dad agreed, “OK, let’s try him.”

Anna placed him beside Merlot. Peppermint was respectful of Merlot and didn’t try to hump her. They sniffed each other but kept a respectful distance between them. Peppermint went about his business and chewed on a piece of hay. Merlot was curious. She went over and checked him out.

From up above, Enzo was pleased. He turned to Abigail and said, “Der! Dat da one!”

Dad watched the interaction. It looked promising. He said, “Merlot, he kind of looks like a fuzzy Enzo, doesn’t he? What do you think? It’s up to you. We can take him home and try it. If you decide you’d prefer to be a single bun, you can let me know.”

Merlot had gotten used to being a single bun, and she liked having all the space and Dad’s attention to herself. But she remembered how she and Enzo used to snuggle and do everything together. Those were happy times. She thought, “OK, we can try it.”

Peppermint was happy. He was going to a new home! Enzo was happy, too. He said to Abigail, “I hope it work out! Den I get my wings!”

Merlot goes on a date and finds a fuzzy Enzo.
