Chapter 130 - The Fragile Bond
Dad brought Merlot home from the vet after her teeth trim. Gently, he lifted her out of the carrier and set her down in the living room. Merlot scanned her territory looking for any changes. Dino was in the bedroom napping. She settled down beside the window. She was tired. She still felt a little groggy from the anesthesia.
A little while later, Dino came out of the bedroom and ran over to Merlot. “Hi Merlot. You OK?” he asked. Merlot said, “I don’t feel well. Just leave me alone.” Dino obliged and sat down a few feet away.
This went on for the next day. Dad watched their interaction. He worried that their bond had been broken. At the very least, it seemed it took a step backwards. They were coexisting in the same area, but staying apart.
A couple of days later, Merlot felt better. Her mouth didn’t hurt as much and she began eating more.
She was loafing in the bedroom one afternoon when Dino came over. “You OK?” he asked. Merlot said, “Yeah, I’m doing better.” Merlot put her head down and Dino groomed her. The two snuggled together again.
A little while later, Dad passed by the room and saw Merlot grooming Dino. He came in and gave them both pets. “I’m so glad to see you guys getting along again.” The bond was back.

Merlot wants to be left alone. Is the bond broken?
