Chapter 284 - Foster Fail
It was time for nightly pets. Dad started the playlist with Christina Perri’s Thousand Years, which had been his and Abigail’s song every night for over seven years. Abigail closed her eyes and Dad gently stroked her ears. But tonight was different.
Merlot gingerly approached them. She gave Abigail a sniff and laid down beside her. Surprisingly, Abigail did not move. Dad petted both of them, side-by-side!
Dad observed, “So, Abigail, does this mean you approve of Merlot?” Although Abigail was still not sure she wanted another girl bunny joining the fluffle, she thought, “OK, she can stay.”
The next day during breakfast, Merlot hopped up on the couch with Dad. Dad nuzzled her ears and said, “It looks like Abigail and Enzo both approve of you. Would you like to this to be your forever home?”
Merlot had longed to hear those words. She looked up at Dad and thought, “Really? You mean it? Yes!”
Dad said, “Yes, really!”
Merlot nuzzled Dad’s face and thought, “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”
Later that day, Dad sent a message to the shelter, “OK, we have an official foster fail. Let’s start the paperwork for adoption.”
Merlot says, "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"
