Chapter 50 – House of Vacs

Chapter 50 - House of Vacs

Enzo and Merlot watched as the new vacuum approached. Its bright “eyes” scared Merlot. She thumped and ran off to the bedroom. Enzo, however, was unphased. It wasn’t his first rodeo. He had watched Dad go through numerous vacuums in his quest to find the best vacuum for cleaning up after rabbits. Dad had used the same vacuum cleaner for 30 years before he adopted rabbits. That classic vac wasn’t up to the task of cleaning up after rabbits and quit the job.

Cleaning up after rabbits has special requirements. First and foremost, it has to suck up rabbit coco puffs and rabbit fur. It has to have a motorized roller to kick them up. It also has to go everywhere a rabbit can go, which means into some tight spaces. Being cordless helps. It also helps to be lightweight, since it gets used everyday or every other day. And it has to be easy to unclog when it accidentally sucks up hay. No vac really sucks up hay. Even shop vacs are challenged.

As the vacuum stopped in front of him, Enzo gave it a sniff. He looked up at Dad and gave his report, “Dis quieter and not as big and threatening. But Merlot scared of its headlights. Dey are a little blinding from down here…”

Dad explained, “This is called a ‘stick vac’ because it looks like a stick. I like it. It’s lightweight so it’s easy to maneuver, it’s cordless, so I don’t have to mess with plugging it in, the stick part lets me get under low clearance areas like the coffee table and bed, and it does a good job of picking up your coco puffs. It’s just a generic brand from Amazon, so it’s not too expensive!”

Dad had tried three “regular” vacuums, a Dyson (too heavy,) a Bissell (cord knotted up), and a Shark (his favorite.) He also tried a top of the line robot vac (it could never navigate his 45 degree furniture placement,) a hand vac (not enough suction,) and a Eufy steam cleaner vac (too many malfunctions.) Perhaps he had finally found the best solution!

Dad easily steered the stick vac around Enzo and continued on as the coco puffs clicked as they swirled around into the canister. The House of Buns was clean again – at least for a few minutes. Enzo looked around the room and sighed. It was time for him to put up new territory signs.

Enzo and dad search for the best vacuum cleaner for the House of Buns.
