Chapter 20 - Helpful Buns
Every two days, Dad cleaned the litter boxes and vacuumed. Along with twice-a-day greens feedings, and stocking the hay, it was a lot of work. Enzo and Merlot had noticed.
Late one night, Enzo said to Merlot, “Dad do a lot for us. We should help him.” Merlot looked inquisitively at Enzo and asked, “What can we do? We’re just bunnies.” Enzo thought for a moment. Then he had an idea. He said, “We good at box chewing. He get lots of boxes. Maybe we can open dem for him!”
Merlot thought that was a dandy idea! The two rabbits wandered around the house looking for an unopened box. Merlot called out, “I found one!” Enzo came running over. There on the floor was a box marked, “TV Wall Mount Bracket.”
Enzo said, “Dad got da new TV. Maybe he need da bracket. Let’s open it!”
The two rabbits began chewing on the box and ripping at it. After a few hours of “bunstruction,” the contents spilled out onto the floor. “Der! Dat should be good!” announced Enzo. The two buns went to rest after their hard work.
The next morning, Dad came into the room to pick up their food tray. Enzo and Merlot ran over to the box. “Dad! We help you! Look what we did!” thought Enzo. Dad looked at the box with the contents strewn across the floor. He smiled and said, “Well guys, thank you for the help! You did a good job opening that box!”
Enzo and Merlot stood there looking so proud. They had found a way to help Dad!
