Chapter 23 - Treat Connoisseur
Dad was sitting on the floor by the coffee table having breakfast when Merlot and Enzo came bounding over. “Treats!” thought Merlot, whom Enzo had promoted to Head Treat Beggar.
Dad pulled an apple loop out of the package, placed it between his teeth, and leaned over for Merlot to take it from his mouth. Merlot gently grabbed the treat. But instead of running off with her treasure to eat it, she placed it down beside her.
“Aw, did you lose it?” asked Dad. He placed another apple loop in his teeth and leaned over. Merlot politely took the treat. But once again, she set it down beside her. She looked up at him with her big brown eyes.
“Do you not want that flavor?” he asked. Dad grabbed a berry loop and gripped it between his teeth and leaned over again. This time, Merlot sniffed the treat, grabbed it with her teeth, and hopped off to savor her treasure.
Dad laughed, “Oh, so you wanted a different flavor! I had no idea you were such a connoisseur!”
Merlot just thought, “Well, of course! After all, I’m the Head Treat Beggar! I know my stuff!”
Merlot teaches Dad that treat flavors matter!
