Belinda Says Hay: “Party Like a Rabbit”

Belinda Says Hay spokesrabbit blog, Dec 29, 2024. "Party Like a Rabbit"

Hello. It's Belinda.

I hope your holidays are good so far. Let me know what you're up to.

That includes the "wee ones" in your house.

I'm supposed to be working but I'm slow as molasses. Mostly because my roommate is extra loud these days. "Holiday spirit" if you know what I mean.

Which brings me to the topic of today's blog.

New Year's Eve.

Are you going to a party to "ring in" the new year? This holiday is too loud in my opinion. Almost as bad as the Fourth of July.

Humans seem to enjoy a "ruckus." But that’s not how rabbits celebrate.

Also I shouldn't have to mention this but I don't believe in a "new year."

Think about it.

I have a hard enough time with Daylight Saving Time. Moving the whole planet back or forward by one hour.

New Year's Eve is like "tugging on" the entire year. You pull the new year up over the old year like a blanket.

One minute it’s 2024. Don't blink because boom. Now it's 2025.

Come on.

To rabbits it’s all the same. You’re chewing hay, and then the next minute you’re still chewing hay.

If rabbits made up "time holidays," we’d call it First Chew and Second Chew.

Anyway, there’s going to be a lot of noise on Tuesday night. Whooping it up, yelling, horns tooting. Flashes and bangs. Cheers and laughing.

That's the humans.

Meanwhile, rabbits will be trying to "lay low." Even the rowdy ones.

They may sneak in a few thumps but that's it.

As for me and Little Fang, we'll be "hitting the hay" at our usual bedtime.

I'll be on my sleeping rug with some oat hay. Little Fang will be in her hidey box, running her paws over her face.

If you're wondering about the English I have no idea. He stays up too late and sleeps all afternoon. None of my business.

For rabbits, the real party is enjoying a bedtime treat and then falling asleep.

No counting down at midnight. No running outdoors yelling. No firecrackers. No banging pots and pans.

We'll wake refreshed in the morning and it’ll still be “rabbit o’clock.”

Well there you have it. My New Year's Eve blog.

I hope this helps you to plan a nice Tuesday evening with your rabbit.

Thank you for all of your support in 2024. I couldn't do this job without you.

There are lots of good things planned for 2025.

"Stay tuned."

Sincerely,

Belinda
