CHAPTER 279 – Advice from a Friend

The door to the guest room was open. Merlot relaxed inside her exercise pen, recuperating from her spay surgery.

Enzo got up from his afternoon nap and sauntered over to the guest room. He thought he should check on their house guest. He had already met her the first night she arrived and thought she was pretty cute.

“How doing?” he asked as he flopped down beside her outside of the ex-pen. Merlot looked over at him. She thought he was a handsome bunny. “I’m fine,” she replied, “This is a pretty nice place. Do you like it here?”

Enzo responded, “Oh, yes! It a good place to live. Dad take good care of us. We get greens, treats, a clean litter box, and space to run.”

Merlot was curious. She asked, “How did you end up living here?” Enzo explained, “I a foster, like you. Someone found me in a yard and took me to the shelter, too. My foot hurt. They put me ‘on the list.’ Dad save me and brought me here. It supposed to be until I got better. But, I stayed. Dad said I a ‘foster fail.’ I think I a ‘foster success.’”

Merlot’s face lit up. She wanted to stay at the House of Buns, too! “What was your secret for convincing Dad to let you stay?” Enzo, who by now, liked Merlot and wanted her to stay, was happy to share his secrets. “It easy. Just be cute and friendly. Dad like dat!”

Merlot thought she could do that. She liked Dad, anyway, so it wouldn’t be hard to be nice to him. She had already snuggled up to him and trusted him. “OK,” she said, “I’ll give it a try!”

Enzo was confident she could do it. The two bun friends spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing, side-by-side.

Enzo and Merlot have a chat through the fence.
