CHAPTER 270 – Couples Therapist

CHAPTER 270 –  Couples Therapist

Abigail heard Dad sigh. She hopped over to investigate. She looked up at him quizzically and thought, “What’s the matter, Dad? Why are you sighing?” Dad looked down at his little fluff ball and explained, “Oh Abigail. Every day, I vacuum up Enzo’s poops by the door to the kitchen. And every night, he poops there again. I know he knows where the litter box is, because he uses it. I wish he wouldn’t do this.” Dad opened the closet and pulled out the vacuum cleaner.

Abigail understood his frustration. She hopped over to Enzo, who was napping by the window. Abigail said, “Hey Enzo, wake up!” Enzo opened one eye and turned one ear towards Abigail and asked, “Wut?” Abigail said, “Dad is upset that you keep leaving poop by the kitchen door.”

Enzo stood up, stretched, and said, “I know, right? I smell another rabbit on the other side of the door. I put up signs to let dat rabbit know dis OUR territory. But every day, Dad take away my signs. I have to do it again! So frustrating!”

Being a rabbit, Abigail understood his intent. But she could also understand Dad’s frustration, too. She explained, “Well, Bentley has never come through the door in all the years I’ve lived here. I don’t think you really need to worry.” Enzo replied, “You never know who else might come through! I just be careful!” Abigail felt a little like a couple’s therapist as she tried to negotiate a compromise, “Well, maybe you could try doing it a little less. For Dad’s sake.” Enzo said, “OK. I try.” He laid back down and closed his eyes and went back to his nap.

Abigail hopped back over to Dad, who had just finished cleaning up. Abigail looked up at Dad and explained, “Enzo is just trying to protect our territory. Maybe you could leave a little bit of his poop instead of cleaning it all up, and then he won’t feel the need to mark it as much.”

Dad understood. “OK, Abigail,” he said, “That’s a good idea. I’ll give that a try. Thanks for helping me understand rabbits.”

Abigail has a heart-to-heart talk with Enzo.
