Chapter 42 - Bunny Hugs
Enzo was sitting next to Dad nibbling on a treat when he heard Dad say, “Enzo, Auntie Heather is in the hospital. She has to stay there for four weeks while she heals from surgery!”
Enzo remembered when Abigail had to stay at the hospital for two weeks. When she came home, she told him how much she missed everybun and was so glad when Dad came to visit her. Enzo wondered, “Dad, is she der by herself?” Dad replied, “Yes, she’s there alone.”
Enzo knew Thanksgiving was coming soon. He was very thankful for Auntie Heather’s help in rescuing him. He thought, “Can we go visit her? I bet she need a bunny hug!”
Dad said, “Why yes, of course we can go see her. That’s a thoughtful idea!”
So, on Thanksgiving Day, Dad packed up Enzo in a carrier. He asked, “Merlot, do you want to go, too?” Merlot was very shy and said, “No, you guys can go!” as she scampered off to hide behind the couch.
A short car ride later, they arrived at the recovery facility. It was the same place Dad’s mother had lived for fourteen years. It was a very nice place, so Dad knew Auntie Heather was in good hands. As he carried Enzo inside, he reminded him, “OK, Enzo. Don’t pee on her!” Dad brought a towel, just in case.
Auntie Heather was all dressed up and sitting in a chair, waiting for her visitors. Dad lifted Enzo out of the carrier and introduced him to Heather. Heather gave Enzo a big hug. She had been going into bunny withdrawal. It felt so good to hug a bunny! Enzo sat in her lap on his back feet with his front paws up on her as she gave him lots of pets.
An hour passed by while Dad and Heather chatted. Enzo needed to pee! What to do? He began digging on Heather’s lap. Fortunately, Heather spoke rabbit rather fluently. “Oh, I think he needs to pee!” she said. Dad lifted Enzo out of her lap and placed him on the towel in his carrier. Enzo got a very focused look on his face for a couple of minutes. Then, he relaxed. “OK, Dad. I done,” he thought.
“Good boy!” said Dad. He lifted him out of the carrier and placed him back in Heather’s lap. Dad and Heather continued on with their chat while Enzo relaxed and enjoyed more pets.
“What are you going to write about in your blog this week?” inquired Auntie Heather. Enzo thought, “I thought I talk about our visit! Can you help?” Auntie Heather replied, “Sure. I’d love to.” She pulled out her laptop and the two worked on his blog together.
Soon, it was time to leave. Heather gave Enzo a big hug and said, “Thank you for coming!” Enzo was happy to see Auntie Heather. She gave good pets and helped him with his blog! “Maybe we come again!” he thought.
