CHAPTER 272 –  The Rabbit Days Of Summer

The “Dog Days of Summer” had arrived – or as Abigail preferred to call it, the “Rabbit Days of Summer.” On the one hand, she loved the long days and the warm evenings. Dad would lay on the floor with them in the evenings and hang out with them more than in the winter. On the other hand, the hot afternoons could be uncomfortable for rabbits.
Luckily, Dad had solved that problem when Abigail first arrived at the House of Buns. When he saw poor little Abigail flopped over from the heat, he immediately installed a cold air machine. Whenever it hummed, the room was comfortable.

It seemed every rabbit in the house had found their spot to “chill out” when it got hot. Abigail watched Enzo as he loped back and forth in front of the cold air machine. He stopped just in front of the bicycles. “Dere, dis it!” he thought. He had found the sweet spot! Enzo flopped down and parked himself where the stream of cold air met the floor. Abigail had discovered that spot years ago.

Aboard the Starship Bunnyprise, Mocha and Hobo had a similar setup. Hobo stretched out and enjoyed the cool breeze rustling through his fur. Mocha, who had less “insulation” than Hobo, just loafed beside him.

Bentley was the luckiest bun in the house. His territory was on the lower bedroom level of the house, which stayed cool naturally since it backed up into the hillside. Bentley just flopped in his “penthouse” under Dad’s bed and relaxed.
All the buns had clean bowls of water, and on really hot days, Dad would put ice in them to keep them cold. Abigail had heard from some of her friends that their bun parents would put fruit inside the ice cubes and they would give them cool tiles to lay on. Abigail had tried them both, but she never really cared for either of those.

Abigail sat down next to Enzo. “Mind if I share the air?” she asked. Enzo replied, “No, just don’t block it!” Abigail was so tiny, it wouldn’t have mattered if she did, but politely, she sat beside Enzo and felt the cool air breeze over her coat. It felt good.

Ah, the rabbit days of summer.

Enzo finds the sweet spot in front of the air conditioner.
