Chapter 297 - Trouble In Paradise

“Her leg has healed!” pronounced the vet. Two months had passed since Abigail broke her front leg. Abigail was excited! She could finally leave her exercise pen and rejoin Enzo and Merlot. Throughout her recovery, the two of them had kept steadfast company with her outside of her ex-pen.

Dad opened the pen and let Abigail wander out. He was so confident that they would go back to being the “three amigos,” that he took down the pen. “I guess we won’t be needing this anymore!” he said.

Enzo came bounding over to greet Abigail. “Welcome back!” he said. He left her alone to explore while he sniffed at all of her “belongings” that were inside her pen. A few minutes later, Merlot came running over and gave Abigail a sniff.

The two had played chase in the past, so Dad was not concerned. Usually, Merlot would chase Abigail for a bit and Abigail would run off to a corner and Merlot would stop. But this time, it was different. Abigail ran off, but she was not used to her leg. As Merlot chased her, she stumbled and fell. Merlot pounced on her and began pulling at her fur!

Enzo immediately ran over to intervene, with Dad following close behind. “Merlot! What doing?” exclaimed Enzo. “Leave her alone!” He pushed himself between them to protect Abigail.

Dad scooped up Merlot and placed her in the guest room. Then he went back to see how Abigail was. “Oh, sweetie! Are you OK?” he asked Abigail. Looking a bit stunned, Abigail thought, “Yeah, I’m OK.”

“Well, that didn’t go as planned,” thought Dad. He resurrected the exercise pen. Once the pen was back up, Abigail ran inside where she felt safe. Dad said, “I’m sorry, baby. I guess you’ll have to stay in there for awhile longer until we can reintroduce you two.”

Abigail thought, “That’s fine by me!”
