Chapter 27 - Where's Dad?
Merlot snuggled up against Enzo. She was worried. “Where’s Dad?” she asked, “He’s been gone a long time. Do you think he got lost? Should we go look for him?”
Enzo, who had been around the block a few times, assured Merlot, “No, don’t worry, Merlot. He not lost. He be back. As long as Auntie Krickett be here, we be OK.” Dad had been gone for almost two weeks – much longer than he had ever been gone before. But from past experience, Enzo knew that Dad would always come back.
Unbeknownst to them, Auntie Krickett had been sending Dad daily reports on how the buns were doing. At night, before he went to bed, Dad would check the rabbit cameras with his phone to make sure everyone was OK. All this gave him peace of mind so he could relax and enjoy his vacation.
Finally, one evening, Enzo’s ears shot up. His ears swiveled like two radar dishes. Enzo recognized the familiar sounding steps on the deck. “Merlot!” he exclaimed, “Dad back!” He jumped up and ran towards the door.
Sure enough, the front door opened and in came Dad. “Hi bun buns! Dad’s back! How are you guys?” Merlot came running over and the two buns followed Dad into the living room. “Dad! We mithed you!” thought Enzo. Dad gave the buns some pets. He was so happy to see his little fur babies. “I missed you, too!” he said.
“Did you have good times?” wondered Enzo, “You better have good times if you going to be away from us!” As Dad stroked Enzo’s and Merlot’s ears, he said, “Yes, I had a great time! It was a fun trip. But I missed you guys. It’s good to be home!”
Merlot relaxed now that Dad was home. All was right with the world again.
