Belinda Says Hay: “The Parade”

Belinda Says Hay weekly blog. Sunday, March 19, 2023. "The Parade."

Hello. It's Belinda.

"Top of the morning to you."

That's an Irish saying.  My roommate's been saying it all week.

If that were the only "malarky" out of her I wouldn't mind. More about that in a minute.

First I need to tell you some good news.

There's still time to stock up on St. Patrick's Day treats.

Such as our "Leprechaun Special."

You get cilantro pear Healthy Snackers and Heavenly Green Crunch in one convenient bundle.

Ignore the photo of me standing in shamrocks. I don't know how that got in there.

If you just want the St. Patrick's snackers you can order them here.

They're so good.

Supplies are limited so "hop to it" if you know what I mean.

OK back to my roommate.

Last Saturday morning I heard her walking down the steps to the bottom level. I was still dozing so I kept my eyes closed.

"Top of the morning, ladies!"

I ignored her.

"Wake up, my wee lasses!"

She's so loud in the morning.

"Belinda O'Brien! Look at my hat."

I don't know why I can't sleep in on a Saturday.

I rolled over and looked across the room.

My roommate was standing at the bottom of the steps looking pleased. On her head sat a shiny green top hat.

"Do you like it? It's for the parade."

Turns out Pittsburgh has a big St. Patrick's Day parade every year. My roommate isn't Irish but that didn't stop her. "Everyone's Irish at the parade."

She fed breakfast to Little Fang and me, then left to drive downtown.

Peace at last. But not for long.

Mid-afternoon, we heard the front door slam.  A few minutes later, my roommate was hurrying down the steps. Still wearing the hat.

"I have a big idea, bunnies."

She told us about the parade. She saw giant horses walking past in rows. Girls throwing batons. Fire trucks and bagpipers.

It sounded like a lot of "clamor" in my opinion. Perfect for my roommate.

"So I was thinking, Belinda."

Here it comes.

"Wouldn't it be fun to have a little St. Patrick's Day parade here at home?"

I stared at her. Then I looked at Little Fang. She turned and walked into her sleeping box.

I couldn't blame her.

"We can decorate the living room and dining room with green garlands. I'll find Irish music and we can play 'follow the leader' through the upstairs."

I'm going to tell you a secret.

Sometimes my roommate blurts out an idea and the best thing for everyone is to pretend you don't understand English.

This was one of those times.

I lifted my front paws and pulled my right ear forward. I cleaned it over and over, as if I were trying to remove a terrible idea from my fur. Such as the terrible idea to march around the house to bagpipe tunes.

I worked on my ear for such a long time that my roommate finally got the hint. She walked upstairs to the kitchen, whistling.

That was the end of the "parade talk."

Let me know what you did for St. Patrick's Day. Especially if it involved treats.

Sincerely,

Belinda
