Chapter 64 - These Are The Voyages...
“These are the voyages of the starship Bunnyprise.
Its five year mission, to explore strange new worlds.
To seek out new bunnies and new fluffles.
To boldy go where no bun has gone before.”
The starship Bunnyprise had just completed the sixth year of its five year mission. All was well.
Six years ago, Dad and Aunt Chelsea had been helping Mocha’s and Hobo’s first dad, Alvin, care for them at the assisted living center, until he passed away. Despite Alvin’s orders to award custody to “Dad,” the facility was planning to send the buns to live somewhere else. It was time to strike! Under the cover of darkness, Dad and Auntie Lauren went “Seal Team” and swooped into the courtyard to rescue them.
Dad gutted a large spare bedroom and remodeled it as the starship Bunnyprise. Mocha and Hobo beamed aboard to start their new adventure. At first, being used to living outside, Hobo would go exploring in the yard to “seek out new bunnies” and explore his strange new world. But as time went on, he and Mocha were content to stay aboard the starship Bunnyprise.
They had both been through some near-death experiences, but Dad took care of them and they survived. Now, at age twelve and age nine, Mocha and Hobo were senior buns enjoying their retirement. Their bond was stronger than ever.
“Hi boys. Happy Gotcha Day!” said Dad as he brought them some treats to celebrate. It was their nightly ritual before bedtime. “I’m glad you boys are doing well. I think Alvin would be very happy to know that his precious buns are still doing well after all these years,” he said.
As Mocha nibbled on some willow, he asked, “Hobo, remember when we lived outside in that hutch? No one ever came to visit us at night. We never knew when we’d get more food.” Hobo agreed, “I remember. We only got treats once a week – on Treat Thursday. Now we get treats every day!” Mocha continued, “I’m glad we came to live here. But most of all, I’m glad we have each other!”
Hobo agreed. He put his ear around his buddy. They were truly Best Bun Friends Forever.
