CHAPTER 267 – Happy BUNdad Day
Father’s Day was coming soon. Abigail and Enzo sat face-to-face, talking, noses twitching.
“You know, Enzo, I’m really thankful for Dad. He feeds us, keeps our litter boxes clean, gives us space to run, and pays attention to us. He’s even saved my life – more than once!” said Abigail.
Enzo replied in broken English, for he was not the writer that Abigail was, “Me, too. He save me more dan once! He good at pets, too!”
Abigail said, “BUNdad day is coming up. What can we do to thank him?”
Enzo tilted his cute little head as he thought for a moment. Then he got an idea, “I know. You da writer. Write something for him!”
Abigail replied, “That’s a good idea. I’m not a very good poet, but I’ll try!”
A few days later, Abigail said to Enzo, “OK, here’s what I came up with. What do you think?”
Happy BUNdad Day! ~ by Abigail
When I was young, you saved my life, by giving me a home.
A home with lots of space to run, and plenty of room to roam.
When I was sick and thought I might die, you kept me by your side,
You took good care of me, and miraculously, I survived!
When I stopped eating all my food, you took me to the vet,
So she could nurse me back to health – I didn’t need to fret.
When a lump made it hard for me to breath, I didn’t know what to do,
But you took me to the hospital, and they fixed me good as new!
When it was curtain time for Bentley, you saved him just in time.
You gave him a forever home, a good home – yours and mine.
When he stopped eating, too, you caught it just in time,
And took him to our super-vet, who fixed him up just fine.
When Mocha and Hobo lost their Dad, and needed a place to stay,
You built them the Starship Bunnyprise, a place to live and play.
When Hobo couldn’t breathe, and he got really fat,
You did whatever it took, and helped to bring him back.
When Enzo’s foot was hurt, and they thought he was a dud,
You took him in and got him fixed, and now he’s become my bud.
You keep us fed and clean, and give us space to run
You never treat us harsh, you always respect the bun.
Every night for seven years, you’ve given me my pets,
The thousands of nights together, I never will forget.
So happy BUNdad day, we all want you to know,
We bunnies at the House of Buns,
Love you more than you’ll ever know.
Enzo did a little binky and said, “Dat great, Abigail! You did good!”
