Chapter 286 - The HoB Models
Even though it was still October, it was time to plan for the holiday season. Every year, Dad volunteered to take holiday portraits of rabbits as a fundraiser for The Rabbit Haven rabbit rescue. The photos needed to be taken in November so people would have enough time to print up their holiday cards.
This year, Dad had four new backdrops – two winter scenes and two forest scenes, in case people just wanted a non-holiday portrait. Since the backdrops were designed for people, he needed to test them to see if they worked well with rabbits.
Abigail, Enzo, and Merlot watched with curiosity as he set up a table, backdrop stand, and lights in the living room. Being as this was Merlot’s “first time around the block,” she asked Abigail, “What’s he doing?” Abigail, who knew the drill, explained, “He’s setting up backdrops for pictures. You’re going to be a model!” Merlot was excited! She had never been a model before.
Dad turned to them and said, “OK, guys. Can you help me test these backdrops? Abigail, you’re the pro. You go first.” Dad lifted Abigail onto the table and let her explore “the set” to get comfortable. He had placed some logs, a Christmas tree, and some fake snow in the foreground to blend with the winter scene backdrop. Once Abigail was comfortable with her surroundings, she began exploring the gifts and wandering around the set. Dad clicked away. “That’s great!” announced Dad. Dad set Abigail back down on the floor and set up the next scene.
One by one, they took turns modeling for Dad.
After looking at the photos, Dad realized that most people would have their minds on a Christmas scene, rather than a spring-like forest scene. He decided wait and offer the forest scenes later in spring or summer, instead.
Abigail looked up at Dad and thought, “How do the pictures look?” Dad smiled and said, “You guys did great! It really helps to see how it looks with rabbits. Thanks, guys!” He handed them each a treat to reward them for their help.
