Hello, valued Small Pet Select customers, and welcome to our latest product-focused blog. As we add more bedding products to our online shop, we wanted to re-introduce you to our legacy products and highlight some of our newer offerings. Additionally, our CEO, Bill Gordon, and our Product Manager, Josh Price, recently visited the plant that makes our entire bedding line. Therefore, we wanted to share highlights of that trip with you.
Bedding Plant Trip Overview
Bill and Josh hopped over to the American Wood Fibers (AWF) plant in Lebanon, KY, 50 miles southeast of our Louisville (East Coast) warehouse. “All of our paper bedding products are made at this plant, which allows us to have a steady supply of inventory,” said Josh. He also mentioned that AWF is a reasonably large company with 450 employees at 10 facilities across the US. As a result, all their paper products are US-sourced.
Sourcing the best farm-fresh essentials and being kind to our planet are equally crucial to our company. So here's why we chose AWF to make our bedding.
- AWF uses 100% virgin paper.
- AWF uses the leftover paper and scrap paper from different American companies, keeping the scrap and unused paper out of landfills and allowing for great use in the pet industry.
- AWF participates in SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative). In plain English, AWF is committed to sustainable forestry practices in the US. Moreover, when you see the SFI-certified label on their products, it means AWF validated their raw material supply to ensure sound environmental choices. Small Mammal Bedding Breakdown
Ok, ok, you’re probably thinking. But, which small mammal bedding product is suitable for my precious pet? Like our Rabbit Hay Basics chart, we’ll give you all the deets below. First, however, don't forget about our Picky Pet Promise. If your furry friend doesn't give the bedding you ordered four paws up, contact our helpful Customer Service. Then, donate the leftover bedding to your local rescue or pet pantry to help others.
While all our bedding products control odor for up to 14 days, we recommend removing damp spots or soiled areas between changes. Additionally, we suggest replacing the paper bedding every one to two days (or fluffing to prevent large wet sites where your animal stands). Damp bedding can cause urine scald.
