Just kidding.
It's almost Halloween. It's fun to pull a few "pranks."
That's the whole point of the holiday in my opinion. Hand out some treats or you might be the target of a little mischief.
Little Fang and I get a kick out of the whole thing. In fact we even co-wrote a Halloween poem a few years ago.
We called it "Trick or Treat."
"Trick or Treat"
Knock knock! On the door.
The kids want something sweet.
My roommate gives them candy
when they yell "Trick or Treat!"
Rap rap! On the door.
She doesn't miss a beat.
"Your costumes are so cute!" she says.
They just say "Trick or Treat!"
Creak creak! Says the floor
overhead. We hear her feet.
Little Fang and I think "Come on."
Maybe we would like a treat.
Thump thump! On our floor.
We do it once. Then we repeat.
She ignores us and it's just because
we don't say "Trick or Treat!"
But we cannot reach the doorbell.
We can't stand on the stoop.
If she walked down here she'd notice
that we're thinking "Trick or Loop!"
We do not sneak out after dark
because the night could not be blacker.
If we did we'd hit the door
and yell out "Trick or Snacker!"
I think that Little Fang and I did an excellent job on our poem.
So last week, I asked her if she wanted to do another "collab."
She stared at me for a long time. Then said she had to think about it.
Not sure what there is to think about. Usually we just yell out words that rhyme and I put the poem together later, while she naps.
It gets weirder.
The next morning, right after breakfast, she told me the poem was finished.
Which is not how you do a "collab."
I wasn't going to argue with her. Not so close to the holiday.
On that note, here's Little Fang's Halloween poem. I hope you like it.
"Treat or Trick"
The house should be silent at midnight.
Do you hear rabbits chewing a stick?
Or paws running loose in the kitchen?
Listen close and you’ll hear “Treat or trick?”
Will we burrow under the siding?
Will you unbuild the house, brick by brick?
If you find us, you’ll owe us a snacker.
So answer us this: “Treat or trick?”
If you give us a treat, there’s no nonsense.
We’ll take anything. You can pick.
But until we get goodies, we’re baddies.
It’s your fault though. You chose. “Treat or trick?”
