Belinda Says Hay: “Why Rabbits Argue“

Belinda Says Hay spokesrabbit blog, "Why Rabbits Argue" July 6, 2025

Hello. It's Belinda.

Did you check out Red, White & Chew yet?

It's a big Fourth of July sale with deals on Healthy Snackers, Vine Hearts, Ball Trios and more.

Don't wait! The Red, White & Chew Sale ends soon.

OK that's the "business part" of my blog.

If I get nothing else done at least that's covered.

I'm in a big rush because I'm writing this before the long holiday weekend. I'm "required" to take a few days off.

Per my roommate.

So I might have to break this blog into two parts. I hope that's OK.

Also I want to say that today's blog is not gossip. It's educational.

Because I want to share a few stories about something that affects a lot of rabbits and roommates.

I'm talking about "squabbles." Also known as bickering and downright fighting.

Humans know what I'm talking about.

You live with a rabbit and it's so pleasant you decide to bring another one home.

"My bunny needs a friend," you think.

"What could go wrong."

Come on.

Sometimes the new rabbit fits in like they've always been there.

You put the carrier on the floor and open the door. They walk out, pause and take a few sniffs.

"So far so good," you think.

Meanwhile the "resident rabbit" watches from across the room. Maybe even plays it cool. Sits on their haunches, washing their face for a bit.

Pretending they don't care.

All of a sudden they walk to their sleeping rug and smoosh it. They pull the end of the rug toward their chest, rolling it, and then unroll it and smash it flat. To make it tidy and "just so."

Making it "comfy" for the guest.

Once that's done they turn and look at the new rabbit. You notice they are pointing one ear toward their stash.

"Help yourself," they seem to say to the newbie.

Are you catching on yet.

That I'm making this whole thing up.

Usually, rabbits need a few weeks or months to "ease into" living together.

With certain rabbits, it could take years.

Meaning the English.

It's not my fault he's "ornery."

My roommate just yelled down to me. Says she needs me to help her with something.

That means she wants to watch a movie.

I have to go. I'll write a "part two" next week.

In the meantime I hope you are having a good summer so far.

"Stay cool."

Sincerely,

Belinda
