CHAPTER 231 – And the winner is…
It was Friday night at the House of Buns. Normally, Friday night was date night for Dad and Abigail. They’d eat dinner and watch some TV together. But this Friday, Abigail was preoccupied. She sat in front of her tablet, ears back, staring intently.
“Why the furrowed brow?” asked Dad. Abigail looked up for a moment and thought, “The deadline for the special needs animal calendar is almost here. I want to make sure Jack-in-the-Bag stays in the lead!” Dad said, “Well, Abigail, she has more than double the votes of the cat in second place, thanks to you and your friends. I don’t think you need to worry.” Abigail thought, “You never know about cats, Dad. They’re sneaky. Sometimes, they just pop out of nowhere and get you. I want to be ready!” Abigail was coiled like a rabbit ready to bolt – ready to add more votes if needed.
The final seconds ticked by on the counter. It felt like an eternity to Abigail. Then, as the counter reached zero, the screen went blank and changed to the home page. “What happened?” wondered Abigail. Dad replied, “I think he won! I didn’t see any changes.”
“Oh, good!” she thought. Abigail relaxed and was ready for date night. She could enjoy her massage now.
The next morning, as they ate breakfast, Dad said, “Abigail, Jack’s mom sent you a message. Apparently, the cat was planning a surprise attack at the end but his plan was thwarted by PayPal.” Abigail thought, “I told you, Dad. You just can’t trust cats! I’m glad Jack won!”
Abigail was happy. Finally, a rabbit had come in ahead of the dogs and cats!
