Through Abigail’s Eyes: Happy Gotcha Day (122)

Abigail at her typewriter

CHAPTER 122 – Happy Gotcha Day

Sunlight burst through the windows, lighting up the room. Abigail opened her eyes and looked around her vast territory. She was a happy girl. For some reason, she felt extra happy today.

“I think I’ll go for a run!” she thought. She darted across the room and began lapping the living room, running as fast as she could around the couches and the coffee table. She loved the feeling of freedom. “I can fly!” she thought, as she jumped in the air and twisted her tiny body. Without skipping a beat, she touched down and kept on running.

Downstairs, Dad awoke to the sound of her footsteps lightly thumping across the ceiling above him. He smiled, knowing Abigail was having fun.

Abigail was taking a breather by the window when Dad came into the room, singing her song, “Are there any little bunnies here? Are there any little bunnies with tiny little ears?”

Dad knelt down to give her a pet. “Happy 4th Gotcha Day!” he said. “It’s been four years since you came to live with me!”

Abigail thought back to the first morning she woke up in her new home. She was still in her old cage. She remembered when Dad first opened the door to let her out and told her she didn’t have to go back in if she didn’t want to. She could hardly believe her ears. She was finally free! She remembered how scary it was to take that first step out of the cage. But she never looked back. Now she knew why she felt so happy this morning.

Dad continued, “Abigail, I’m so glad you came to live with me. I love you more than ever.”

Abigail thought, “Me, too, Dad!”

Abigail recalls her first step to freedom.
