CHAPTER 154 – Love In the Dark
It was still early evening when the sun began to set. Abigail looked around. The room grew darker and darker. Usually, Dad, whom she thought was the “God of Light”, would make the room bright well into the night. But tonight, it just got darker and darker.
Suddenly, a flash of light appeared. Shadows danced across the walls and ceiling as it approached. Abigail wasn’t sure what was going on, but she knew this wasn’t normal. She dove behind the couch. “Don’t worry, Abigail, it’s just me,” said Dad,“The power is out, so no lights, no TV, no computer, no music, no books. It’s just us.”
Dad went over to try to calm Abigail, but she was too nervous. She ran off and hid. “OK, baby, I’m sorry this lantern is making you so nervous. Maybe I’d better just leave you alone. Don’t worry, you’re safe.”
He headed downstairs to check on Bentley. Bentley was sitting in the dark at the bottom of the stairs when he saw the bright light approach. “Don’t worry, Bentley, it’s just me,” said Dad. Bentley was fearless, so he didn’t run off. Dad explained, “The power is off, so there’s not much to do except pet the bunnies!”
Bentley thought, “That’s OK with me!” He put his chin down on the carpet. Dad laid down on the floor beside him and began stroking his head and ears. As the dusk light faded to black, Bentley enjoyed one of the longest head pets ever.
There was nothing much to do. Just love in the dark.
