CHAPTER 150 – Tag. You’re it!
One night, as Dad petted Abigail’s head, she heard him say, “Abigail, I wish I could play with you. But I don’t know how. Can you show me sometime?”
Abigail thought about it that night. She knew other bunnies liked to play chase with each other, but how could she get Dad to do that? Abigail was a clever little bunny, so she came up with a plan!
The next evening, she decided to give it a try. She looked up at Dad, who was lying on the couch watching TV. She hopped over next to the couch. THUMP! She stomped the floor. She knew that would get Dad’s attention.
Dad looked over. Abigail was sitting with her back to him. “What is it, baby?” he asked, “Do you want some attention?” Dad rolled off the couch and onto the floor to get down next to Abigail, but Abigail ran a few feet away. She stopped and looked over her shoulder, and thought, “I bet you can’t tag me!”
Dad started to follow Abigail, but Abigail ran a little further. Soon, Dad was chasing Abigail around the dining table. He was not as fast as she was, so she would pause, wait for him to get almost within tagging range, and then hop off again. She wanted to encourage him by making him feel like he had a chance at tagging her. She knew he was chasing her in fun, so she wasn’t frightened.
Around the dining table they went. Then, Abigail darted through the living room and around the couch. Try as he might to tag her cute little tail, she would always out maneuver him.
Finally, Abigail paused long enough to let Dad tag her. It was important to let him feel like he won so he’d play again. Dad yelped, “Boop! Tag, you’re it!” Abigail thought, “Good job, Dad! I need a drink.” She ambled over to her water bowl.
“Well thank you for showing me how to play with you, Abigail,” said Dad, “That was fun! Let’s do that again sometime.” Abigail thought, “OK.”
And just like that, Abigail had taught Dad how to play with her.
