CHAPTER 238 – Thankful
It was Thanksgiving morning. Abigail waited patiently for Dad to come up from his burrow. She looked forward to their quiet time together. Her little ears picked up the sound of Dad’s footsteps approaching.
“Good morning, Abigail!” smiled Dad, happy to see her, “Would you like some pets?” Abigail thought, “Oh, yes! I’ve been waiting for you!”
Abigail binkied over to Dad and put her head down. Dad knelt down on the floor in front of her and stroked her tiny ears. Then he leaned over and nuzzled her ears with his nose. It had taken a long time for Abigail to trust Dad enough to let him do this. She loved it.
From across the room, Enzo bounded over and bumped Dad, “May I haves pets, too?” he thought. “OK,” said Dad, “But be gentle.” Enzo sat down next to Abigail while Dad petted both of them. Although Abigail did not totally trust Enzo, when Dad was near, it was OK. She knew he would protect her. She stayed in place.
The three of them spent about five minutes quietly communing with each other. Without words, their souls connected. It was pure love. Dad whispered, “This is what I am most thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving my little loves.”
For Abigail and Dad, Thanksgiving means being thankful for having each other.
