Hello. It's Belinda.
This blog will be a quick one. You'll know why in a minute.
Last week I wrote about the surprise gift I received from Abigail, the novelist.
You can read Abigail's stories here. She writes about her life in California.
There's always something interesting going on at her house.
Anyway in my blog I mentioned that my roommate and I had a bit of a "squabble" over my surprise gift. Which was a piece of framed art.
I wanted to hang it under the utility sink. That's where I work, ever since my roommate turned my office under the steps into a storage closet.
My roommate said that the utility sink was too "risky." What with all the drips and such.
She thought we should display the art in the living room.
"Let me show you, Belinda."
She held it against the wall above the television. "Doesn't it look perfect here? Where everyone can enjoy it."
The thing is I spend most of my time on the bottom level. Either working or dozing or just hanging out with Little Fang.
My roommate splits her time between the dining room table and the couch. Both are in the "sight line" of the wall above the television. If you catch my drift.
I didn't feel like arguing with her. So I just turned and walked downstairs. Some hay was "calling my name."
That was a month ago and we still haven't decided where to hang Abigail's gift.
In fact, my roommate has been a bit "low energy" all month.
For example, the other night she was 20 minutes late with our dinner salads. Little Fang and I have plenty of hay to tide us over but we like our meals to arrive "on schedule."
After 15 minutes I ran out of patience.
I walked upstairs to check on "salad prep." I hoped to see my roommate at the sink. But the kitchen was empty.
The dining room was dark as I passed through. And when I turned the corner to enter the living room, I stopped in my tracks.
Because this is what I saw.
My roommate was lying on the couch with all the lights off.
Reading her phone.
Now I don't want to spread gossip. But that isn't the first time dinner was late during the past month.
And it's not the first time I had to thump to "remind" my roommate to put her phone down and get cracking on the parsley.
I hate to bring this up, but she helps me with some parts of this blog. I'm sure whatever she sees in that phone is fascinating but I have hay to sell.
Not sure how to handle this if you want to know the truth. Sometimes I think my roommate is hibernating.
If you have any advice for me, leave it in the comments. Or email me at belinda@smallpetselect.com.
I still can't answer comments under my blog. I'm sorry about that. The Tech Team is working on "debugging" it.
In the meantime I hope you have a good week.
"Eat a snack."
Sincerely,
Belinda
