Hello. It's Belinda.
Summer started on Friday. I have two blogs for you about that.
Actually three blogs if you count the one I'm writing for next week.
Today's "edition" is mostly drawings. You can skip it if you don't have a lot of time.
Because the #1 most important thing to read right now is not my blog.
Instead I hope you check out "Beat The Heat: Keeping Your Rabbit Cool In The Summer."
My friend Britney from the team wrote it. She did an excellent job.
Here's just one "snippet" from it:
"Temperatures above 77°F can be dangerous for rabbits since they are highly susceptible to heat stress and dehydration. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to heatstroke, which is a life-threatening emergency."
She included tips on how to prevent overheating. And what to do if you notice your rabbit getting sick.
My roommate said the temperature in Pittsburgh will feel like 105 degrees this week.
Everyone in this house will be hiding on the bottom level. I can tell you that right now. It's the coolest room in the house.
And speaking of the bottom level. It's time to talk about another "issue" that affects rabbits in the summer.
There's a window down here, over the dryer.
During the day it looks like this.

That's fine.
Just enough light to let you know it's time to work or have lunch.
Or whatever you do during the day.
Eventually afternoon turns to evening. After a while the sun goes down.
Your roommate might turn on a lamp or two.
That's your cue to stop with all the "hustle and bustle." It's time to enjoy dinner and relax.
You'll know because the window in your room will look like this.

Isn't that peaceful?
Makes me want to head straight to my sleeping rug.
So eventually all the rabbits in your house and mine doze off.
If we wake in the middle of the night for a "loo break," that's OK.

Even at midnight there's a little bit of light. From the moon and streetlights and such.
So you can find your way to the "facilities" or the water bowl.
By the way I hope you are enjoying these drawings so far.
Well here comes the "plot twist."
Friday was the longest day of the year. That means the sun doesn't go down at bedtime now.
In fact the sun will continue "goofing around" for the next few months. Staying up late and shining into burrows and windows.
I like to go to sleep at a decent hour. Especially on work nights.
Hard to do with this in my eyes.

It's 9 p.m. but outside it looks like "high noon."
I don't have an ending for this blog. It's just drawings but rabbits know what I'm talking about.
Anyway, good luck this week with the hot weather. I hope you and yours stay cool and safe.
Sincerely,
Belinda
