Best Books on Rats

Best books for rat owners
So, we all love a good book, right? But I love-love a good book when it’s about... you guessed it… rats! There are some really great books out there that don’t just tell us, but show us why rats are one of the best companions. Ever.

Misunderstood, Rachel Toor
So, as you all probably already know, I’m really a lover of more personal writing, just generally a more personal story. And that’s why I love this book. Basically, it tells the story of Rachel and her companion, Iris over 3 1/2 years. What I enjoy, too, is that it does a particularly good job incorporating history and facts without making me yawn. Not that facts aren’t great, they are, but when they’re coupled with a good stomach busting laugh or heart wrenching cry, they’re that much better. I honestly think it would be a great gift, too, for people who just simply don’t understand how anyone could love a rat. Check it out here.

The Complete Guide to Rat Training, Debbie Ducommun
I think this is a really great option for both beginners and experts for rat training. The author even goes over how to set up science projects. Rats? Doing science projects? Whaaaaa? Also, Debbie explains something that’s super important when training: not just teaching the tricks, but why the tricks actually work, which leads into a much greater understanding of rat behavior. You’re gonna want this one.

Rats: A Complete Owner’s Manual, Carol Himsel Daly
This is a great “before you buy” or “super new to rats” book. Fantastic for beginners. It really covers the basics on what rats need to thrive from both a physical and mental perspective. Even really great if you’re an experienced rat owner, but have younger reader aged children who want to learn more about your four-legged family members. So if you're a newbie, buy it.

Doodle Artist - Fanciful Rats, Annette Rand
I know this doesn’t particularly help us learn about rats, but it helps us learn how awesome coloring is. And how much better coloring rats in an adult coloring book is, so I had to include it. That’s equally important, isn’t it? Plus it’s $5.99… do yourself a favor, and get yourself one.

Go and check out the above books; I’d recommend them at least. But also, if you (or your rat) has any others that you adore, share them with us… after all, sharing is caring!
